Zonta Club of Caboolture celebrated their 30 year anniversary in 2023.
Making a difference!

About Membership
What is the Zonta Spirit
The Zonta spirit is a sense of community that you experience when you feel good about contributing and making a difference. It comes from working together to do good in the world. Ideas are shared, friendships are made, and community is built within the club.

The Zonta spirit grows as projects are achieved and people’s lives changed. We bond together as members of Zonta Club of Caboolture to celebrate women and girls, and to advocate for change.

One way our club builds the Zonta Spirit is we meet bimonthly for morning tea at a local café to catch up and spend time together in a friendly and relaxed environment. Also some of our local events are more social focused, for example, a mystery bus tour or fashion parade. During these experiences we can connect and share on a personal level. The great thing about being a member of Zonta is the fellowship among members.
We also meet other Zontians at Area meetings, District conferences and International conventions. This year the Zonta International Conference was held in Brisbane. Zonta has membership across the globe. There are always opportunities to experience the Zonta Spirit, network, catch up with old friends and make new friends. Zonta is a community of people who want to make a difference to improve the lives of women and girls no matter where we live. See what we did at the Zonta International Convention in our 2024 Events Calendar in June.

Our Members
Zonta Club of Caboolture celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023. Every year our membership grows. In 2023 we welcomed four new members, and in January 2024 we inducted another new member. A few of our members have been recognised for 25 years of service and recently another member was recognised for 40 years of service. Because Zonta is an International Club, members can transfer between clubs if they move from one district to another.
Our members volunteer their time, knowledge and skills every month to achieve the goals of our club. We are a very busy club, raising money, doing advocacy and providing service in our local community.

Meleitta Lowrey is inducted as a new member of Zonta Club of Caboolture. Welcome to Meleitta.

Cecil Nielson celebrates 40 years of service to Zonta. She first joined Zonta in Darwin.

Siti Constable is recognised for her 10 years of service to Zonta International.

Sue Droughton is thanked for her service to Zonta Club of Caboolture as the outgoing President. Thank you Sue for your dedication and passion and for leading us with your heart and mind.

What does it mean to be a Member?
A member of Zonta is called a Zontian.
As a member, you attend and participate in monthly dinner meetings, participate in committee meetings and project planning days. You volunteer your time to proactively participate in the club’s service and advocacy projects and fundraising activities.
Members usually join at least two Committees to make a meaningful contribution to the work of Zonta Club of Caboolture. Our Committees include the Service Committee, Advocacy Committee, Membership Committee, Events Committee, Nominations Committee, Constitution and By-Laws Committee. We also create other committees as needed to support special projects. Each committee has a Chair who is responsible for leading and reporting on the work of the committee.
Zonta Club of Caboolture also have an executive board that runs the club. The executive board includes six current members holding the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and two directors. To become a board member, members must first be nominated and then voted into that position. Board members are elected at the Annual General Meeting held in April. Each position has a maximum term of service.
Led by the Executive team, members organise, plan and implement ideas, policies and projects to fulfil the mission, goals, strategic plan, and values of Zonta.
Zonta is international, so club members can choose the range of their involvement. Members have many opportunities to get involved at both National and International levels if they desire. One way to go beyond local concerns is to attend District 22 and International Zonta conferences.

Why join Zonta?

There are many reasons for joining Zonta. Membership is not passive, it is active and involves contributing your time to get involved. Our service is to be proactive in advocating for women and girls.
Zonta is for people who take a world view of the difficulties faced by women and girl children. We advocate for change by supporting our local communities to deal with the daily instances of these issues. Also, we are proactive in supporting change outside our regions, at a national and international level.
Childbirth in developing countries
In Australia, women faced with emergency caesareans go on to have healthy, live babies.
In developing countries, 1 in 5 girls marry before they are 18 (World Vision Australia, 2020); in some countries it is as high as 40%. Often girls are too small to give birth naturally. When they experience difficulties in child birth they can be left with a fistula (hole) in either the bladder or bowel. This type of child birth injury can result in the lives of these girls being devastatingly effected. Without access to medical treatment, they can suffer for life. It really is just a matter of geography, they suffer because of where they live.
BUILD A BETTER WORLD FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS

Fistula can be fixed with a simple operation, but in developing countries with limited resources and expertise, the procedure is often not available. Zonta can help with that.
The work of Zonta assists to improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women and girls. We work for a life free from physical or emotional violence and promote peace in our communities and the world. It is the women and children who suffer as a result of conflicts.
As members of Zonta, we can act together with likeminded members of their community. We can take up projects which apply to all of these areas, some locally here in Caboolture, some nationally through Zonta District 22, and overseas through Zonta International.
Zonta is a network of women who are aware of the problems facing women and girls, locally, nationally and globally. We can achieve great things when we work together guided by a strategic plan that is researched and free of corruption. Zonta provides a way to get funding and assistance to where it is needed the most.
With empathy and compassion Zonta is a means to build better lives for women and girls in Caboolture, Australia and globally.

Things to consider before you Join
How much time is needed to be a Zonta Member?
Being a member does involve some commitment of time. It takes time to attend dinner meetings which run from 6 pm to 9 pm once a month. Most members attend at least one sub-committee meeting a month. Also, there is time to research, plan or implement work that needs to be done in between meetings. Zonta is a service club, so it is very important to consider if you have time and want to make the time to be involved.
What happens if my ability to commit to Zonta changes?
As a club member of Zonta, you have the flexibility to change the commitment you give as life happens. This means you can take leave, go on holidays, have a break from attending meetings or being directly involved. Membership fees are paid annually. Therefore, members can decide not to renew if they are no longer able or want to be actively involved in the club.
Do I need to have specific skills, knowledge or experience to be a member?
No. Zonta is a diverse Club with members from all over the world. As individuals, each member is respected, appreciated and valued for their ability to use their skills, knowledge and experiences to contribute to meetings and the work of committees. Together, we support and encourage each other to make a difference. Members can choose how they want to contribute. The idea is you do what you enjoy and feel confident doing. There are many things Zonta does that doesn’t require a lot of skill, just time and energy.
